What winter tires are you using?

I'm running Bridgestone Blizzaks mostly out of habit. I worked at a tire shop in Colorado all through college and found that the best mass produced tires for the snow were the Blizzaks, and the more boutique brands are Vredestein and Nokian.
I'm running the Blizzak LM-23's (recently discontinued) in 245/40/18 because they work in the snow while being a V rated tire. They certainly have less grip in the snow than an 118 mph tire (Bridgestone W60), but life's a compromise. I do believe Michelin and Pirelli seem to be upping their snow game but around here Bridgestone, Vred and Nokian are king.

I've got Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 last year. I couldn't be happier with my choice as the tire is perfect on dry and wet roads and it made the S3 a beast in snow. Highly recommended.

RS3, running Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 235/40-18. I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I won't be doing more than 118 mph on these this winter ; I've run performance winter tires on several cars before, most recently being Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 on my 2010 Audi S5 for 5 seasons. When I replaced them, I went with the X-Ice XI3, and preferred the X-Ice overall - only gave up a little bit in dry road feel to the PA2, but they were MUCH better on snow and ice. I also had the previous gen Nokian, the Hakka R, on our 2014 S7, and just put a new set of R2s on that car for this winter. I prefer the Nokian R2 to the X-Ice3 (which are both better on snow than any of the Blizzaks), and we get enough snow and ice here that the poorer snow/ice performance of the performance winter tires is not worth the tradeoff for slightly better cold dry pavement performance.
