Winter Wheels

I currently have 18" wheels and thinking about using my 16" winters that I had on my old Jetta. Anybody with an A3 quattro drop down to 16" size for winter? Any issues with doing this? Will it clear the calipers? (I'd test but they're stored at VW, and one tire is blown, so would rather not buy the 4th one if the wheels don't fit).

I do drop to 16's for the winter. However, I bought the package on Tirerack so the wheels were specified to fit. The diamater of the rim is not the issue, it's the offset. If you compare the offset on the rims you already have vs. the specs on Tirerack for our vehicle you can then confirm that your older VW rims will be good to go. Also, be careful about the shape of the lug bolts required for your rims. Your Audi lugs shoud be fine but some rims have cone shaped lugs and others have a 'round shape' lug. My rims came with the proper lug bolts and I have to use them when putting on the 16's.

So my summer tires are:
225/40/18
8Jx18 ET51 wheels.

winters that I have from old car are:
205/55/16
6Jx16 ET48 wheels.

Both are 5x112 (bolt).

Any issues with going down this much? I plugged it into some site (willtheyfit) and said that it would poke out less by 22.4mm, and inner rim would be 28.4mm less.

To compare, my old Jetta (225/45/17) on 7Jx17 ET54 lost 18.7mm poke and 6.7mm when going down to these.

anyone with an A3 quattro
