I was calling a shop to do a stage 1 apr tune and they mentioned the issue with the tensioner and it will cost me 100 for them to look and see if I have the new style or not. I pulled the cover and looked I can see that it has that tension ring near the shaft but I cant see if it has the notches on the shaft. whats the newest style look like? I tried to get a pic but its just blurry and cant really see much.

car is a 2012 audi a3 with the 2.0 tfsi
the shop quoted me 1307 to replace it

There is a plug on the front cover to inspect it. I just checked mine. Its pretty easy to see if you have the old style or the new if you have an inspection mirror. $90 to check that from the tech is stupid. Heres what mine looks like. I also put a photo in there of what the new style looks like vs the old style
