Audi MMI shuts down then startup again every 80 minutes
My car is a 3 month old A3 1.5TFSI 5 door Sportback Sport.
I've just done a 5 hour journey from Hampshire to Lancashire. At 1 hour 20 minutes into the journey the MMI shutdown and after 20 seconds or so started up again. This also happened at 2 hours 40 minutes and 4 hours.
I asked the dealer why this is happening and they THINK [ ie they don't know] it might be something to do with the "Rest recommendation" function but there is nothing in owners manual Rest recommendation section stating that the MMI will shutdown and restart.
Anyone any ideas?

Embedded systems like the MMI have what's called a watchdog. A watchdog is a timer that under normal operation is regularly reset by the computer to keep it from expiring. But if due to hardware or software issues the computer all the sudden hangs, the watchdog expires and initiates a hard reboot to recover from the hang. Was the MMI actually functional up to the shutdown or is it possible that it hung itself shortly before the shutdown? My guess is there is a hardware or software issue with your system that manifests itself at regular time intervals and hangs the system and then the watchdog reboots it to recover.

Thanks for the reply:
Your question:
"Was the MMI actually functional up to the point it shutdown"
Yes, everytime it happened the radio was on and everything was normal. The unfortunate thing is that to replicate the "fault" will take a lot of driving and miles!
