Electrics gone crazy 2001 A3
I have a 2001 8L A3.
Something has gone wrong in such a way that I am at a loss as to how to google a solution.
When I turn the ignition on all sorts of clicks and whirs happen. It sounds like the fuel pump starts. The car does not start or turn over. The car seems to think it is already on and the dash shows the 'apply footbrake to select gear'. No windows work. the door lock/unlock doesn't work and pressing these cause more clicks and whirs. Putting my foot on the brake seems to stop the clicking.
Unlocking the car manually seems to the same thing. It will let me unlock the car but then it automatically locks and won't let me turn the key for 10 secs.
It all occurred after I did some work on the power windows. The passenger power window was not working so I took the door apart including unplugging a ll the electrical connections to the lock and window. and checked all the connections. I managed to get the window working. I then put everything back together and the problem started.
Also I recently put the key through the wash so the fob doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated.
