Engine Coolant

Engine Coolant
So about four days ago, I was driving home when a warning came on to turn off engine and check coolant level. So I pulled over and turned the car off, and then back on. The warning disappeared, so I didn't worry about it. When I was driving yesterday, the warning would occur every 10 mins. Today I went outside to check the coolant level, and the cap for the container that holds the coolant wasn't on. Could this be the problem? If not what is the correct coolant to buy, so that I can fill it up? And should I drive the car until I get the coolant?
Thanks
James

The cap could very possibly be the issue, as you probably lost some coolant and or pressure in the system. When you say "wasn't on" though, what exactly do you mean? All the way off and missing or sort of on? Do you have the cap back on now?
If you're not getting any more issues once you put the cap on, try scanning for codes. Do you have access to a scan tool with VAGcom?
And the correct coolant should be in your owners manual. Audi's must use either G12 or G13 coolant (Mixed with distilled water).
