2013 S5, 65k miles, bad fuel pump?! Says dealer
My car had start-up issues as of dec. 10th. I replaced the battery thinking that was the cause. The battery was adapted at the dealership and the problem persisted. Then, the dealership took 4 days and decided the battery I put in (Bosch H9-95r) was incompatible with the car and voltage numbers were too high under diagnostics. So, they replaced the battery again, and the problem continued. Now they are telling me the vehicle has a bad fuel pump ($1,300).
The issue: the car will not start on a cold startup on the first attempt (it cranks but does not start). The car does eventually start after multiple attempts ( pressing start/stop switch and locking and unlocking car, to reset computer).
What I’ve concluded: a faulty fuel pump relay.
Reason: the car starts after pressing star/stop button multiple times until I hear the (whining) sound of the fuel pump engagement, in which I press down on the clutch and hold the button (typical manual startup).
Question: I have not had any performance issues or stalls. Is the dealer right in saying I need a fuel pump?
thanks for your help guys! 😎
