Default 2010 Navigation DVD for North America

I received a letter from Audi in November of last year informing me that the 2009 map update for my navigation system was now available for order. I purchased the new DVD for $199 from my dealer and now, 8 months later, another letter informing me of the availability of the 2010 Navigation DVD for North America for my MMI, for you guessed it, $199.

I called my dealer and spoke to the Parts Department Manager and he confirmed that my present DVD, labeled Version 2009/2010 installed last December has the same part number 4E0 060 884 CJ as the just released DVD that shows Version 2010/2011. He thought that when Audi made changes to the Navigation DVD that they also changed the Part No. and thus concluded that I already had the same information on the just released and advertised Navigation DVD.

Anyone have any information confirming his supposition? I sure don't want to spend another $199 for the same information.

Thanks,

RSP

I just got the same letter....

What does the "new" dvd include - just new streets, POI, etc...

Am I correct in assuming it is NOT any kind of MMI update but just new/updated map data ?

Updates should be free in my opinion, how's that 3.2 working out for you?

I agree that when you purchase a $50,000 plus vehicle that you should not have to purchase a $199 new DVD every year or so to keep your NAV current. Having said that, it's another profit center for the manufacturer and dealer and that's obviously why they do it this way.

To answer your question about the 3.2 FSI, 6 cylinder engine, I think it represents an excellent blend of horsepower, torque and MPG and if given an option, I would choose it over the smaller 2.0 TFSI, 4 cylinder engine that is offered on the 2010 A5 Coupe. I understand that the 3.2 FSI engine will no longer be offered on the 2011 A5 Coupe that the only engine, for the USA market anyway, will be the 2.0 TFSI.

2008-2009 is DVD and I'm assuming that 3G Nav uses a HDD?

Anybody know how to install the DVD?

I see the DVD player in the trunk but I hit eject button and nothing comes out.

Seems to be a disc in there, or I'd just pop the new one in.

audi doesn't make much money off you on the map dvd update. the disc is from navteq and they charge $199 as well.

streets / POIs change all the time. usually a good thing to do every so often (granted that you actually utilize the navigation feature)

How often do you guys see a new street? .... so, updating to every new version is a bit excessive, IMO. The disk is sold directly from Navteg so Audi isn't making money on their customers here. The only thing I hate Navteg is that for my A4 with RSN-E nav, it say what street/exit I'm turning on to and what is coming afterward. My new MMI system doesn't say **** and given that the nav disk I have in the A4 is 5 years old.
