the cars are two different animals. do you want good mileage with reasonable performance, lower insurance and probably lower maintenance cost or do you want to go really fast? Also, the S5 has a boom sound between shifts which I didn't like and others love. Test driving would be a really good thing. The S5 seat is super comfortable, the rims are gorgeous, and the additional body enhancements are beautiful.
Drive both and see what you think first.

I do agree that the two are really different and it will come down to whether or not you want a drop top with good performance, or straight coupe that can blitz from A to B.
I'm not much of a cabriolet person myself, even after a test drive of an S5 cabriolet didn't change my opinion. Although I've only had the coupe for a couple of days now, I really like the performance and feel of the coupe. The only thing I don't really like (and I knew this going into it) is the gas mileage.
The other reason why I didn't want to go down the cabriolet route is the lack of a manual transmission. That may or may not be a concern to you. If you are looking for a Tiptronic, keep in mind that the A5 cabriolet gets the new 8-speed Tiptronic automatic while the S5 coupe still has the old guard 6-speed Tiptronic.
If you plan on taking the car on a lot of windy roads or some really spirited driving, the Sports Rear Differential is only available on the S5 models and not the A5 models. You can still get ADS, but the differential that would be included in the package for the S5 won't be for the A5.
Of course, the cost differential can be as small or large as you want between the A5 cabriolet and the S5 coupe. If you must have certain options and/or packages on the S5 coupe, keep in mind that will change the cost by quite a bit.
Good luck
