I recently ordered a 2012 A5 about a week and a half ago, and my dealer informed me today that the car has been in production/being built since 7/13/11. Anyone have a general sense as to what the timeline is from when it goes into production to expected delivery?

For me, it was about 5.5 weeks from when the car went into production to arriving in my city. Not bad considering it has to wait to be transported by ship and rail car afterwards.

Since you don't have a location listed, it depends on if you're North East, Gulf or Cali/North West.

Add approx three weeks if you're west coast from the time you get the 'it's on the boat' notification. Depending on your sales person, you may need to keep on them to get the 411 on what stage your car is in. Some are better than others in this regard.

There are some threads around that will help you figure out what boat your car is on and the tracking sites you can use to follow it across the pond.

and how do we track the ship? whats the site? and how do i fing out which ship mine is on?

Check out my thread. Based on the www.pwl.de website, you're on the Pegasus Highway. Start tracking it on August 10th or so.

dealer said it should arrive to port July 29
released to carrier on aug 4 and dealer around aug 8
which ship would it be on then?

Once the ship sails from Emden, the www.pwl.de website moves on so since the ship is arriving on July 29, I assume it left a few days ago. Sorry...you're in limbo on this one. Perhaps you can email or call the numbers on the pwl.de website?

thanks for all the info - I'm trying to get the commission # from my salesperson...then I should be able to see where it stands. can't wait to get it
