Adding Auto Start/Stop button (and function) to a B8 A5/S5/RS5
So, my 2015 RS5 has the standard "Drive Select" button on the center dash with two "Blanks" to the right of it. I was thinking of changing that left switch (the center dash has 2, three button switches) to the one with the (Drive Select-Blank-Auto Start/Stop) switch. And once installed, I'd like to activate the Auto Start/Stop button and put it in "Remember last setting" mode. My guess is the switch simply needs to be added and "turned on" in VAGCOM, and the switch default settings need to be then changed to remember last. Aside from the ppl who would think I'm crazy for wanting to ADD the Auto Start/Stop button, let alone the feature, well, I just dont like "blank" buttons very much. My next step would be to add the rear sunshade and change that button too...but I heard THAT project is quite an endeavor.

Why do you think the 4.2L CFSA was designed in any way to support stop/start? I couldn't find any resource though to detail the changes made to the 3.0T to support stop/start (B8.0 CCBA to B8.5 CGXC changes) to speculate at the concerns.
Also, there's more to stop/start energy management than just enabling a button. Climate control (J255) and energy management (J533) are also heavily involved. I also don't know if the RS has the V50 pump. Etc.
The only US market implementation of B8 platform stop/start was the B8.5 Q5 with 3.0T, 3.0 TDI, and 2.0T hybrid power plants.

Did find some statement on the 3.0T stop/start modifications. This is from an SSP, so a bit higher level than an engineering document, but:
Main bearing bushes • Bearing bushes are coated with an additional wear-resistant layer designed to withstand composite friction produced by the start-stop system on restarting
