Adding Satellite Radio to MMI

Adding Satellite Radio to MMI
I just bought a 2010 A5 and it had Navigation and the MMI, but strangely, no Sirius.
I bought a Sirius radio module on ebay but the dealership told me they couldn't install it because, "my car was not even wired for satellite radio". How is a 2010 A5 not capable of having a satellite radio module added after the fact? The module was designed for the A5? is this just a matter of not having the wires? It seems absurd to me - any help?
Thanks,
gb

I ordered my 2010 A5 new from the factory with MMI Navigation and if I recall correctly, all new A5's with MMI Navigation came with a free three or four month trial for Sirius. So it should most definitely be wired and should probably only need a call to Sirius to activate the radio (and deal with Sirius' awful customer service line).

Do you have a SAT button on the console behind the shifter? If so...you have it. The non-NAV cars have the SAT button on the center stack, between the FM/AM & Media buttons on the left side of the stack.
And besides...ALL US spec 2010 A/S5 cars came standard with Sirius.

Check out page 30 under Features and you will see it.
I would have someone else at the dealership look at it...or try another dealer.

Sounds like the SAT module is inop in the MMI. The A5 has the SAT built into the 5F module (MMI unit) on the cars with NAV, so if it does not come up, then it probably needs to be replaced. Obviously, if its just deactivated and needs subscription, it will have the subscription info screen come up. Only North American vehicles have SAT radio, as Sirius and XM are US satellite radio providers, so you don't see this in EU vehicles.

Here is a picture of the dash if that helps determine which of the above diagnoses is most accurate....

Normally (U.S.) you press the "Radio" button and there should be selections for AM, FM and SAT). There's no separate console button for SAT on NAV cars which you seem to have.

I brought the car to another dealership (as suggested by a5sport) and it seems the car has satellite radio already (as we all expected) and the reason it wasn't showing up was a software issue. They updated the software and now it works fine. Was it amazing is that the first dealership didn't even tell me that the module was already there! You think they would have noticed it if they were supposed to know where it is! Instead they told me that, "the car wasn't set up for it" -scary. Needless to say, I will be going to the second dealership for any further issues.

Can you please provide details o n is software update? My exact same vehicle doesn't show the option in media but it does have a module and comes up in the vag scan. I figured the module was bad. Dealer wants to charge $250 to just tell me what to do... Details please. Thanks. Software update I can get without going to the dealer?
