Audi A5/S5 Moonroof criticisms

Re: Audi A5/S5 Moonroof criticisms
This is a non-issue for me. In fact my Aston Martin V8 Vantage has no sunroof and that's OK with me. If you don't want a roof, buy a convertible!

what's your favorite feature in the car?
not engine or handling, but feature. let's say the s5 didn't have it, would your purchase decision be changed? you can laugh, but all you are doing is saying i have no reason to want my $60k car to have the features i want and which most of the competitors have. pretty closed minded of you...my purchase criteria are laughable but i'm sure yours are not..

why is it dumb?
for some people, me included, it is a critical feature in a car and will therefore impact the buying decision. i can't believe people are criticizing individual priorities....if the s5 was missing what for you was a critical feature i'm sure it would have some impact on your decision what to buy as well....doesn't make it dumb, just your choice. for me, i'm more likely to look at the upcoming s4 biturbo since that car will have an opening sunroof, instead of the s5. i'm still hoping audi changes it's mind and puts a real sunroof on the s5. it's not like it can't be done, it just wouldn't be as big as the vent that's up there now.

I can't think of a single individual feature that would have that much sway on any car.
And no, Audi can not put a traditionally sized sliding roof on the A5. The roof line prohibits it.
To do it, it would have to be tiny and worthless.
So Audi chose to give what they could... a very large pop up panel.
The BMW 6 series suffers from the same fate for the same reason.

what is it about the shape of the roofline makes a traditional sunroof impossible, is it too curved? count me as one who uses sunroofs all the time, this is a definite minus in my book.

I love the size of the sunroof on the A5. Tilting is more than enough for me. Sacrificing size in order to make it fully opening would not work for me.
What you hate, I love.
If you are part of the minority that can't live without a fully opening sunroof, then I guess this isn't the car for you.
Audi isn't going to change a major design feature in order to satisfy a minority of the buying public.
It's like complaining that a Ferrari should have a bigger trunk.
