Default Audi offers 50% off pistons, o-rings, timing chain

Concerned about investing $3500 in my 2013 A5 with 104,000 miles due to the oil consumption issue. Is the $3500 gamble going to give me a lot of life? Is the 50% offer fair since I'm past warranty?

Thank you!

rctc:

The offer sounds ok coming from an Audi dealer. Make sure it includes all labor!

We had our '12 A4 done a couple months ago for $900, but was under some mileage threshold. It seems the more you research, the more confusing it becomes. The recall / class action did not include '12s but AoA offered good-will on early 12's. Once you search for oil consumption & 2.0, you'll get hundreds of hits. Everyone's had a different story, and the "deal" varies from dealer to dealer.

The 2013 model year had an engine design update to address the oil consumption issue. And the timing chain tensioner too!

I have a 2013 2.0 TFSI A5 and it doesn't burn much oil at all between oil changes. Maybe 1/4 quart for 8000 miles. I have 76K miles on it. It has never gone below the 1/2 way point on the oil level indicator in MMI.

BTW, you can check your timing chain stretch via VCDS

Anything more than 4 to 5 degrees should be a candidate for a timing chain replacement. I think one tooth is around 7 - 8 degrees.

Our 2013 needs oil added every week even with the “upgraded” engine. So disappointing.

What oil are you using? Is it one of the approved VW/Audi 502.00 oils?
