My fix is to avoid the freezing in the first place. On a day when I expect snow or ice I spray the lower seal with silicon. Never have had an issue with the window sticking. Ice may coat the entire window and it still drops down 1/4 inch when I open the door. That said, it's still probably a good idea to carry a small spray can of de-icer for an extreme case. Try the silicon spray. Works great for me, maybe will work for you.

I prefer di-electric silicone grease. Lasts longer, harder to apply. Worked in michigans coldest winters.

Folks I have a good tip regarding the stuck window problem in sub-zero temperatures, get hold of a can of Silcon Lubricant Spray from your Audi dealer, code D 007 000 A2.

This was suggested on a thread by Michael Moore on the VW Vortex forum :

I bought a can of this and applied it yesterday, this morning at 8:30 I tied my door handle when the outside temperature was around -3.5 degrees and almost instantly the drivers window lowered slightly to open the door. The temperature overnight reached around -6.0 degrees so really pleased there seems to be a cure for this problem.

I have had this problem ever since I bought the car back in 2008, and also suffered the same issue with my previous car a 1994 Audi Coupe. Seem to be a design flaw by manufacturers making cars, especially coupes and convertables without frames around front windows.

Anyway, hope those of you that are tempted to try it have the same level of success as I have.

Dave
