Default Carbon Build-up fix covered under warranty

Friends, I have an '09 S5. It threw an engine code at 62k miles, with rough idling and start. Tech confirmed likely carbon issue which I was aware has plagued these engines. It is a $1200 fix. As mine is a Certified car with 100k warrantee, I asked the tech to make a warranty claim. Neither of us held out much hope given Audi's rejection of similar requests in the past. But this morning he called to tell me that Audi will cover this repair.
And as I was looking in the Q forum, I saw that Audi has finally acknowledge this issue and is apparently sending letters to owners with the terms of extended warranty coverage, so the writer said, for 10 years or 120k miles. Good news for a lot of us.
Anyone here got this letter yet?
David

I got one (the letter). Sorry I can't share right now, but I'll share a link to a scan of it if I remember and no one else here beats me to it.

2013 S5 purchased in June 2013 in Ontario Canada.

Ye, got the letter a few weeks ago. Actually 2 letters - one for 2010 S5 and one for the 2013 Q5.

The tech tells me that they access the cylinders and blast them with a high pressure wash, thereby removing all of the accumulated carbon. Engine efficiency is restored.

that bulletin is for the 3.0 and 3.2 engines. What about the 4.2 v8 in the S5 and RS5?

The letter posted in #5 and likely the one you are talking about is for carbon buildup in the secondary air injection ports - not carbon buildup on the intake valves that the OP is likely talking about.

I've seen references to several 4.2 owners who have had an intake valve cleaning done under warranty - but it's a case by case basis.

I think the secondary air injection issue is getting more attention because it has to be functional for the car to meet federal emissions targets.

I have a 2010 A5 3.2 S-Line and I contacted Audi USA today because I have not received a letter. They told me I am NOT covered under the extension. I argued tooth and nail, especially because the exact same 3.2 is in the Q5 and the A6's in 09 late 10 are being covered. I guess the A5 3.2 owners are screwed when it comes to getting our de-carboning done. And believe me it will need it. Im coming up on 58k and I am starting to feel the starting stutter symptoms. Nothing but Shell V-Power and getting up to temp quickly. Ugh

P.S. She said it is Vin Specific. Only some 4.2's are covered according to her. She also said if you did not receive a letter, then your not in the extension.
