Door Handle Sensors on S5 - Problem
I've searched all the forums, and could not find any additional information. In need of assistance.
My driver side door sensor stopped working. I ordered the correct part, and installed. The door sensor did not work. I read some posts where some people replaced one, and needed to replace the sensor in the other door. So I replaced the passenger door sensor as well. Still does not work. Is there something I'm missing? Is there any other reason why the door sensors would not work? Any help is appreciated.

How did you troubleshoot the issue...how do you know it was the driver side sensor? Did you VAG-COM to get codes, validate they were related to the sensors, or perhaps pointed to something else? What part number, is it correct for your VIN? There isn't much to go on here. Codes and other specifics would help considerably.

I would auto-scan the entire car...takes about 5 minutes and goes through all the controllers, save the codes to a notepad file...this is your baseline. I would then clear the codes and see if any return after a few days.
Go through your baseline and see what issues you have.
Bad door sensors typically have results like this:
03286 - Sensor for Contact with Door Handle; Front Right
011 - Open Circuit
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01101011
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 181
Mileage: 147581 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2015.03.10
Time: 07:26:35
03286 - Sensor for Contact with Door Handle; Front Right
007 - Short to Ground - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100111
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 222
Mileage: 147594 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2015.03.10
Time: 14:48:34
Also, there is a VIN split on the part number you provided....is that the right part for your car...that sensor is to VIN 8T8029964
Go through your baseline and see what issues you have.

still works and probably enables/disables the security component of the smart key. What it's not doing is triggering the electronically controlled mechanical actuator within the door panel itself. Usually it's just a servo arm within the actuator that has slipped off (perhaps from too much slamming and/or door internals subjected to extreme cold) and that arm has to be slipped back on. This type of fault is often linked to or associated with a faulty door handle touch sensor.
There's a good How-To repair for this in the A/S/RS5 Owners page on facebook.
