Default :: ECS Tuning :: Audi B8 S4/S5 2-Piece Brake Rotors!!

Word search!

Pick the words that best describe ECS Tuning two-piece brake rotors: slotted; semi-floating; vented, cross-drilled; aluminum hats; gray cast rotors, precision ground; corrosion protected; black anodized; drop dead gorgeous.

Now put those pieces together, combining superior materials with exacting manufacturing standards. What you get are brake rotors attractive enough to turn heads; and tough enough to stop Audi's super sportster.

I got these 2-piece rotors for my S4 and Geomat rotors for the back. The Geomat look great. But the 2-piece rotors rust very quickly. Much more than the stock rotor. Which is a shame as the do look good greta when new.

Can't we get Geomat discs for the 2-piece caps......

Where are they rusting? The hats are aluminum so they shouldn't rust and the rotor rings have all raw material painted besides the contact surface where the pad touches.

This picture was taken 3 hours after a drive. Oxidation can already be seen forming in the holes and slots and also on the surface. Rotor looks more "gold" then "silver".

That's surface rust. Pretty much any rotor will do that when it gets wet. Couple swipes of the pads and its gone. Coating that part of the rotor would do no good as the pads would eventually wear the coating away and you would be back at square one.

It's really nothing to worry about.

Thanks Jason. Just hadn't seen this before with the stock rotors (unless after a wash). Also the GEOMET's on the rear always look great.

Perhaps by pads are not abrasive enough, I am using Akebono Euro Ceramics front and back. Front discs never seem clear of rust signs even immediately after a drive in dry conditions. Brake performance seems OK. But maybe something up with the pads.

Another thing too, since you are using Ceramic pads that very well could be brake dust. Ceramic brake dust is very light in color, almost orange. During break in it would make sense for the holes and slots/sharp edges to accumulate a slight dusting from the pads.

Let them break in and see if it changes. I would give it at least 500 miles.

Have you bed the brakes yet? Front the picture it doesn't look like it. This will optimize brake torque, reduce brake squeal, and get the max life out of the pads and rotor.

Akebono don't seem to have a recommended bed in process for their pads.

I did 6 or so runs to 35MPH and braked slowly to 0, followed by a copule of runs to 45 MPH and hard braking to 5 MPH. After initial install

I now have done about 400 miles and brakes are feeling better, still not as sharp as the originals.

Thanks again for the information.

I would re-bed them following the instructions below.

Bedding them slowly will not transfer brake pad material enough to the face of the rotor. This is what will optimize your braking.

Good luck!
