Default Finally Bit the Bullet

Hi All,

Longtime lurker (7 months), first time poster here. I finally bit the bullet and bought a 2012 A5 Ibis White Prestige w/ sports package this weekend. Just drove her back from the dealer 50 miles away. My biggest concern was properly breaking in the car. I've heard debates from both sides of the fence - drive it like you stole it, or baby it.

Once during the ride I accidentally let it hit around 6000rpm (a little worried about it now), but I generally, I tried to let it go through all the gears, at about 4000rpm max. Anyway, I'd like to hear any of your experiences in breaking in your car.

Thanks!

I kinda babied mine. I think the manual says not to rev it past a certain rpm (2/3 of redline?) during the break-in period (1500km). However, it is kind of tempting to see what it's capable of.

Default Nice and easy....................patience.

From day one I treated mine nice and easy. Patience.
No need to rev it or wind it up or race it.
I KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO.
That in itself is enough for me.

My S5 Cab. is a special incredible work of art in my mind.
I would never.............ever............even come close to pushing it or remotely abusing it. Call me paranoid but that's the way I feel about this gem.

The day I took my S5 coupe from the dealer, I hit 105 MPH and redlined as soon as I exit the ramp to the freeway. And then I slowed down ... by slowing down, I mean, I was driving around 90 - 95 mph in dynamic mode LOL.

Thanks all for your responses and the welcome! Haha, looks like there's folks on both sides of the extreme (as expected). The reason I asked was because of these theories of making sure to set the piston ring seal well and early during the first crucial miles of the car, lest you run the risk of combustion leakage/burning oil due to an improperly set seal for the lifetime of the car. Although people could argue this topic to death, I was just curious to what Audi owners actually did themselves.

Pics will follow shortly.

Cheers,
J

Congrats! I say = just drive it! Sure, I kept it from the limiter and varied the rpms (no cruise) for first few hundred but have also driven it hard. Love how it truly adapts. This is 21st century technology and engineering in a bullet proof engine capable of 400+ HP with the right mods (break-in driving it one way or the other aint' gonna hurt it). /2cents
