How long is the Backup camera supposed to stay on?

Something annoying is going on with my brand new A5.

When in reverse, the backup camera comes on.
When going back to drive-- it stays on! For at least 10 or 15 seconds it seems I am driving while seeing what is behind me on the MMI screen.

I don't think this is the way it worked the first time I tried it- leading me to believe there is some setting I changed. Is this normal behavior or is there a way to make it turn off when I am in drive?

Thanks!

This is normal.

What is the reason for this "feature"
Other backup cameras I have had switch immediately when going into drive.

Also, I haven't had a chance to try out the parallel parking mode on the parking camera.
Do people find this actually works or is easy to use?

Thanks again!

You can change this setting by going mmi, car, setup.

Until you are going 9mph - the mirror also stays tilted down until 9mph

The purpose for it staying on is so that you can still use it to fine-tune your positioning, even if you are going into forward gear to pull up a bit.

Not sure if you are correct. I found a way to change the frequency of the "beeping" and the sensitivity of the backup radar, but couldn't find a way to change the time that the backup camera stays on while in drive. ANyone else have any luck?

Exactly. Not everyone can park perfectly the first time. It's especially useful when "rocking" the car back and forth (alternating between FWD and Reverse) when parallel parking to center your car between the space/car in front and behind. If the screen turned off every time you immediately engaged 1st gear, it would be flickering on and off in these parking situations.

It also has the side benefit of letting you view whatever you just crushed/hit/banged...

"Honey, what was that thump?"
"I don't know dear, why don't you pull up a few inches and see what the TV screen shows..."

The timing can be adjusted via Vagcom..

I dont have any adjustment for that in my mmi - is that a U.S. vs the rest of the world setting?
