Yes; serious.

I bet your dealer won't know a thing about whether Phantom Black shows orange peel, but perhaps you could look at an A6 (common color on that car) or an RS4 to see it in person.

I think the Amulet Red on the TT is near-perfect. There are some panels that look so good...

... it's like they were dipped in paint.

I really don't know how difficult it is to pull the servo.

I think some people with A6s and B7 A4s have done it.

Europa 11-12-2007 06:32 AM

I doubt I could capture it, but given the hand wringing, perhaps I should try to photograph it.

Maybe my definition of orange peel is different from others'. I also doubt it'd buff out.

I don't notice the effect on other panels; the hood and trunk lid look fine, as do the doors and fenders.

Europa 11-12-2007 06:34 AM

I'd recommend going to the dealer to see a Phantom A6 or RS4. I'm sure they're painted in different

... factories/areas of the factory, but you may be able to see what I am seeing. Look on the vertical contours of the trunk - it's most distinct to my eye there. I don't notice it on other panels, honestly.

No, I had a local shop do the tint, and they had the same issue with the rear window.

They redid it once and it's still not perfect, so it's going back for a third time. I certainly don't blame them - the window's at quite a slant back there.

"Orange peel" is an effect in paint where the surface isn't perfectly even to the eye. Like the peel of an orange, it looks slightly bumpy and uneven.

Re: Impressions and observations after ten days (and some glamour shots)

From what I was told during training at the S5 Product Advocate, the cover was for running chargers to the battery. The cover allows the trickle charger cable to be run up to the charging points under the hood cleanly. BTW don't ever attempt to jump the car off the battery in the trunk or charge.

I think more people should hear about that last part... (not jumping the car via the trunk battery)

Europa 11-12-2007 10:28 AM

There are all sorts of warning signs on the rear tray, and the battery.

PUIDR 11-12-2007 11:27 AM

My phantom black also has some orange peel
