I think there is a 1-2 second pause from when you turn the car off before it releases the key...is that what you're seeing - or does it stick longer?

It's part of the design that there is a brief pause after shutoff before the key comes out. Don't know why, but that's the way they made it.

When you push the key in, don't try to pull it right out, let it pop itself back out and then pull it out.

Manual says: Give it 1-2 sec before you pull out. Or the locking mechanism will jam.

This wait does not apply to other types of...insertion.

Longer....
It seems once I try and release it, it stays stuck for a long time. I jiggle it, press it in and out a few times... very scary.

Once it is stuck they recommend you press it in again to let the locks re-engage and disengage properly. Don't people read manuals anymore these days.

i usually use my index finger to press to shut off, then grab the key to pull it out - so two separate motions like that usually gives the car sufficient time to release the key.

works pretty similar to my bmw...
