Key Removal Issues

I've had my A5 almost a month now. Occasionally over the last week, my key wouldn't come out of the ignition when I tried to take it out. I had to restart the car and then shut it off and was able to pull the key out. Has anyone else had any issues like that? Thaks for your input.

I've got the same problem with my 93 90CS. I've actually had it stuck for weeks before coming out. Worse in cold weather. Unfortunately, I'm no help. I have no idea what is causing it, because it will then go months with no issues.

Good luck. I'm looking forward to seeing the responses!

If it's like our Q5, the car stays in Acc mode when turned off and sometimes it just seems like it needs a sharp tug to remove, but always comes out. As long as it's in Park!

There is a slight delay for the electromagnet to release the key. Don't just yank it out right away.

+1. This "trick" took me a while to figure out. What works well is:

1. Press in and hold for about a second
2. Stop pressing and wait about a second
3. Grasp the fob and pull out

do it quickly

I've had this happen occasionally and the solution seems to be to do the whole process quickly, meaning when you push in the key to turn the car off, don't hold it at all. Press and let go. Car will shut off and you'll be able to remove the fob. When I hold it in, car still shuts off but fob sometimes will stick and then I have to restart and go through the process again.

Manual says wait 1-2 sec before pulling fob out.

I too used to think my key was getting stuck when I first got my car. You really do have to wait just a second before removing it rather than doing it in one fluid motion.

Maybe they're trying to make people 'need' the Advanced Key option. I don't think I can stand having to wait that extra second.

Or maybe this is their first time with this sort of keys.

so far, so good

Thanks for all the replies. My best success has been to push the key all the way in and pause for a little bit before pulling it out. It hasn't gotten stuck at all in the last 4 days. At least I know it was't just my issue.
