I picked up a beautiful 2011 Convertible S5 and less than 500 miles, the transmission started acting up. Within half of mile of start up, the transmission would grind and then the dash would simultaneously light up transmission malfunction, lose reverse and the TPMS light would go on. If you turn the car on and off...it all goes away until you drive another half mile or so.

I took it in to a local German shop, they diagnosed it as the mechatronic unit malfunctioning. They quoted $2600 in parts, $850 in labor to replace mechatronic unit and reprogram.

I found the mechatronic repair kit on ECS Tunings site and had another qualified mechanic install the repair kit, change the fluid and filters.

Well the problem is still there...same as before.

Any ideas?
Could it need reprogrammed?
Do I need to replace the mechatronic unit?
Do I need a new trans?

Please help! I love this car and want it back on the road without bankrupting me.
