The 2012 S5 coupe having the supercharged gasoline 3L V6 and S Tronic DSG transmission is certain, not just almost certain.

I hope to pull the trigger on a S5 premium, brilliant black, titanium pkg, carbon inlay, 3m bra, Audi care. We'll see where the deal goes.

The Audi site lets me configure the carbon inlay but some say the titanium pkg only gets the piano black inlays. It's not indicated on the S5 "build your own" page. We'll what shows up. My A4 has the piano and although sporty it does look cheap.

I thought my first purchase would be the Stasis exhaust but if it arrive in November/December I'll need winter rims & skins.

The Titanium Package for the A5 includes the Piano Black inlay, while the S5 package does not include it. I think part of the reason for that is that the S5 has more inlay options than the A5 (base aluminum inlays and two wood inlays).

You can think of it as: the A5 Titanium Package is an exterior and interior appearance package (therefore the higher cost) while the S5 Titanium Package is an exterior appearance package only.

Deal done! As I listed above. They didn't see why I couldn't have the carbon and the Ti package. Late November delivery (they say) but we'll see, week 36 for the Ti build isn't until mid September and I'm sure I'm not 1st in the que. A little over $2k off with the 3M clear bra.

Wahoo!

It is a widely known fact.

The 2012 RS 5 convertible, coupe and sport-back will have the normally aspirated gasoline DOHC 32V 4.2L FSI V8 (apparently, without valve-lift and with an 8,250 RPM redline producing 444/450/331 SAE hp/DIN hp/kw @ 8,200 RPM and 317/430 lbs/ft of torque/nm from 3,000 to 5,000 RPM) with the new Borg Warner DL750 (D for dual clutch transmission, L for longitudinally mounted engines and 750 for a maximum capacity of 553/750 lbs/ft of torque/nm) S Tronic direct shift gearbox (or DSG for short; this is Volkswagen/Audi Group speak for dual clutch transmission, FWIW) transmission as the only engine and transmission combination worldwide.

It is a super poor marketing decision for for Audi (or, anybody else for that matter) to do the following: worldwide, offer the RS 5 in all three of the bodystyles with the engine and transmission combination above with only offering the S5 convertible and sport-back, worldwide, with the supercharged gasoline DOHC 24V 3L FSI V6 (without valve-lift and with a 7,000 RPM redline producing 329/333/245 SAE hp/DIN hp/kw from 5,100 to 6,700 RPM and 325/440 lbs/ft of torque/nm from 2,400 to 5,100 RPM) with S Tronic only for the S5 convertible in North America (six-speed manual standard and S Tronic DSG transmission as an expensive option for the S5 convertible and S5 sport-back elsewhere; no S5 sportback in North America, BTW) and, worldwide, continue to only offer the normally aspirated gasoline DOHC 32V 4.2L FSI V8 (with valve-lift and a 7,000 RPM redline producing 349/354/253 SAE hp/DIN hp/kw @ 6,800 RPM and 325/440 lbs/ft of torque/nm @ 3,500 RPM) with any transmission offerings for the S5 coupe.

In the very close future, worldwide, far too many people are going to want the S5 coupe with the supercharged gasoline V6 and the S Tronic DSG transmission as the only optional transmission for Audi to continue to offer the normally aspirated gasoline V8 with any Tiptronic automatic transmission as the only optional transmission on the S5 coupe from late 2011 for 2012 onward.

The supercharged gasoline V6 delivers better performance in every aspect (not just acceleration and speed but also handling, steering, braking and so on), better fuel economy with lower emissions and a ride that is firmer, more civilized and comfortable, more stable, more well controlled and smoother, all at a lower cost (with lower insurance rates) than the normally aspirated gasoline V8 with the lower redline.

You can have your v6 3.0 supercharged, v8 4.2 all day baby, all day. Like Adrian Peterson, when I turn that beast on, the melody it makes is pure heaven, that alone is worth the price of admission. Spits on the v6 3.0, beatup on 3.0 S4 the other day, it was fun, he should have known better.

must have been a bad driver in the S4, because the S4 beats the S5. I went up against my buddy last week in his S5 (i have the V6T/DSG), and spanked him good.

we then traded cars, and the reults were the same- the S4 won. I know how to drive the S5 also, as i owned one for a year and a half. He's also just about a full-time dragster, so he knows how to drive.

I'll give you the exhaust note, however. Nothing out there beats the S5 melody.

don't get too cocky w/ your S5 every time you pull up to an S4, you might get embarrassed....

LOL, I know the S4 is a beast, and the low end torque is alot to handle, to be honest I think the S4 guy was kind of scared. I mean overall the S5 engine is stronger, but that doesn't happen until 6000rpm at which point it really doesn't matter. I like the S4, but beat or not beat, the S5's v8 just seems right to me in that car, all honesty.

certainly wasn't not knocking you on your car choice--the S5 is one damn fine car!
