Rim Choice - A5 Cab
I am the new and very proud owner of a 2010 A5 Cab (Pristine Edition) w/19" Factory rims. Paint is Meteor Grey Pearl and the top is black.
I need to run a dedicated winter set up here in the NE.
What do you guys think for winter rims? Any you prefer that are not listed below...trying to stay <$150/rim, unless it's really something a cut above.
Axis Sport XM (Matte Graphite)
Sport Edition SE-16 (Titanium Gunmetal)
MSW Type 25 (Matte Grey)
Anzio Vision (Matte Graphite)
Sport Edition P3 (Anthracite)
Moda MD10

Congrats on ur purchase & Happy drop top driving !!!.
If ur too lazy to crack the manual open ( like I was ) , if u go on tirerack and choose a winter tire, they will tell you what size wheel/tire are ur options.
That said, 17" is the lowest, however its going to look really weird with the wheel gap, or in ur case if you drop to 17" from 19" your car will drop very low to the ground 2" which will defeat the purpose for winter driving. When you play around with wheel size, you might have to swap suspension springs or switch to an adjustable coilover suspension. ($1000ish for parts+ installation ) . I use 18" stock rims like these for NJ N.E winters, and 19" for summer. The coilover will allow you to adjust the suspension height when you swap rims between summer and winter.

Thanks for chiming in tr3!
My plan is to choose a tire with a similar diameter to the one on the 19" rim...so I don't think I should lose and clearance...? This should give me a nice thick sidewall to help in the snow plus protect the rim a little better then the low clearance 19's.
I wonder if there is a performance benefit of the thicker sidewall on the 17's, versus just a -1 drop to 18's.
Thoughts?
