RS5 vs ???

When shopping for a winter dd I ended up choosing the RS5.

I considered the SQ5 and the Macan.
SQ5 only tranny is an 8 speed auto matic. yuck
The Macan is Fugly. The turbo only has 400 hp vs 450 for the RS5 (2015 na) 500 hp turbo (2016).

The Macan has air suspension and PDK. That's good. But we are talking $93k vs $80k for the RS5. Not worth it when you are losing 50-100 hp.

We do not need another 4 door car ...have the S4 for that. Clearance in snow has never been a problem with the RS5.

So very happy with my choice. What cars did you look at?

While R8 is a fine car...we already have a 458 spider and a Porsche Boxster S.

The RS5 has room for my skis and whatever i need to haul around. Those folding back seats hold alot of cargo. And we can take a ton of stuff when we go on a trip.

Congratulations...

Think minus-1 sizing for winter rubber (as I am sure you already know). I see you got the 19" for OEM - that is a good choice for a daily driver. We use our 2015 S4 as often as we can around town as its power band is much better suited for local cut-and-thrust driving. I found our RS5 really loosened up at about 6K miles, though, and doesn't lunge quite as much as it did early on. Now that is has about 10K on the clock, it is just sublime to drive. We just returned from a 3-day 600 mile run through the canyons of Central California - what a hoot. Used a GoPro for the first time - also an interesting addition to the fun. We put it on the trailing car - it keeps you honest about crossing any yellow lines or poor corner choices that you make.

With respect to cargo room, with the seats down I can fit my mountain bike (with front wheel and saddle tube off) inside with all my gear for bike and car. That way I can enjoy a spirited 100 mile run through the canyons and not sling my bike off a roof rack.

My long time sales rep (bought five Audis from him) has just moved to Porsche and is enticing me with offers… the Cayman GTS is very tempting.

Congrats on the RS5

Eric

Yes 19" with Mich Pilot SS AWR...fantastic tires. No problems on snow and ice.

An obvious choice vs RS5 is the S5. We have a 2014 S4 and I wanted something different.

I particularly like your color combination...

... my wife and I did both a 2015 S4 and an RS5 in the black optic option and while I do still like them, I think I am over the "Special Ops Effect" and want a bit of sparkle back.

Enjoy the ride,

Eric

That is interesting. I saw an RS7 with the black optics pkg. silver/black interior. Stunning.

One of the things I liked best about the RS5 is the classic silver grill. And i think you have to get 20" wheels with the black optics but am not sure.

Anyway, there is only one other RS5 b8 in the valley. So the car is rather unique.
