S5 and iPhone 4S
I tried my iPhone 4S on a 2012 S5 at the dealer showroom yesterday. The iPhone was able to sync with bluetooth for phone use. It was not able to use bluetooth to send audio to the S5, as the S5 does not have Audi Connect. In using Siri on the iPhone 4S, the sounds came through the S5 sound system.
There was a 2012 A6 in the showroom. I tried just syncing audio bluetooth and it worked fine. The salesmen indicated that the 2013 S5 would have Audi Connect. BTW, Audi Connect uses T-Mobile for its internet connection and costs $30 per month after the first six months. I am not certain if you need to renew the T-Mobile internet to still get bluetooth audio from the iPhone. Anyone know?

I have both the iPhone 4s and S5. like you said, the phone syncs fine with bluetooth to use for answering/placing call but when i go to use siri, the phone activates bluetooth and connects through "voicemail" and then you can use it over the intercom/speaker system. It has pros and cons but its not too terrible using the speaker system, just seems alittle unnecessary.

The iPhone 4S appears to work this way on other cars as well. It does the same on my wife's 2011 535i. Siri appears to be connecting through a phone call to the car. Is that weird or not?

Well I guess that the painfully obvious question is that is there an app to push the iphone audio through the Bluetooth phone profile into the 3g MMI?

+1. I also have an iPhone 4S and A5. Siri pipes in over the car's speakers and mic and works beautifully. I've sent and had messages read aloud while driving and it's a real pleasure not having to (or wanting) to type messages while enroute or stopped at a light, etc. Apple states Siri is in beta, and at present cannot send/read email messages. Once that is made available, this will change the game completely when compared to BMW's iDrive office feature-set. Can already move meetings, etc. around. So, I'm quite thrilled with the promise/potential Siri already gives to us over the car's bluetooth profile, let alone what Apple will include once Siri is out of beta.
