Subwoofer Install
#21
All,
I am looking to replace my S5 sub-woofer. I am going to keep the stock amp, but would love to move to a 4ohm low-profile sub. My question is, will the B&O amplifier support a 4ohm load, or will it blow from the higher current?
I saw a couple of posts about sub-woofer replacements, and one post was referring to a 4ohm replacement.
So - anyone replace the stock sub with a 4ohm one and kept the stock amp? Any issues, is the stock amp ok?
Thanks!

I ordered a 8 inch kicker dvc 4 ohm sub since a 10 wont fit in the A3... btw did you ever check the temps in your amp to see if they rose since you have been using you 4 ohm sub?

The amp does get a pinch warmer, but it has seen some good demands in the last 15 months. If it was going to cook, it would have probably done so.
FWIW, JL does make a quality sub. Kicker - not so much. I wouldn't expect significant results by using a lesser grade/quality sub. I'm not sure if the lower quality would also mean a stronger likelihood of it cooking your B+O sub amp.
I'm sure there are some affordable 8" JL subs from discount places like sonic electronics and such that should work nicely for you.
BTW, I see you're still researching the subject - https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...nyone-2722468/

Looking at your Kicker selection, it appears we're on a very modest budget here.
That said, I believe this might suit your needs quite nicely.

Yes I am researching as much as I can...
the reason I dont got to SVC is that my OEM amp is fed by two channels 100w each... and this goes to the DVC OEM sub at 8ohms each coil... Yours I believe is SVC 8ohms.
The reason I went with kicker is that they are suitable for free air, but would gladly go to something more "higher end" if possible. Pretty much what mandates here is the sensitivity.
I am still looking for as much info as I can.
Thanks,
JC
