I have the Conti DWS' on my A8. They do fine for the snow we get in KY. I've even had them up north in the winter, with no problems. Where in KY are you?

Another vote for the Coni DWS06. I commute an hour through the snowbelt for work, and I do prefer to use dedicated snow tires here since we get a lot.

Yes, with the lake effect it makes good sense to have dedicated snows. I used to live just down "the road" from you and know it well. I actually have them for my '99 from when I lived in IL. They are now 20 years olds, and still have plenty of tread. I only run them 2 - 3 months down here in KY, before it starts warming up. It may make sense here, if you want dedicated summer tires. ...A snow emergency here is 2" or more. We will get the occasional 10" snow fall, but it is rare. YearlyAvg is ~15".
