Default TPMS Malfunction malfunction

The TPMS warning lights have come on in my 2009 S5, including the "TPMS Malfunction" one. I checked the pressures in all the tires, including the spare, and they were right on factory settings. I stored and confirmed the new pressures. The warning lights went out for a short time and then reappeared. I redid the store and confirm and the lights were out for a short time and then reappeared.

What are the likely fault possibilities?

Is it possible to simply turn off the lights?

It appears, on the surface, that the TPMS in my car is idiotic in any event in that it takes the current pressures in my tires and allows me to save them as the correct pressures. Let's say that I randomly inflate and deflate (I am a Pats fan and still think that Goodell and his judges are fools) the tires and then save and confirm the pressures in the system. GIGO, no?

One or more of the TPMS sensors (which are part of each valve stem) might have their battery's dying. Anytime after ~ 5 years we can expect the batteries to start failing.
Mine began failing at the 7 year mark.
This is common for the 08/09 models before they switched to a different sensor/monitoring system.

I have a 2004 A8L that I've just replaced all four OEM rims with all new sensors due to the fact the old TPMS were old and dead. I was getting the TPMS MALFUNCTION with no tire pressure readings. Now the new rims and sensors are on and I still have the same TPMS MALFUNCTION warning when I turn it to on. Do I need to take it to Audi to have them reset?

Default It's always good to read the owner's manual.

You can probably reset them using what came before MMI, that big dial on the console or some such. Or as I was told in the Navy; RTFQ!

Yeah, don't try to fake it.

I had a couple of years of a Porsche Cayman before I bought this S5. The Porsches have three different frequencies of tire pressure monitoring sensors. It is important that you get the right one as you replace them. I do not know if there are multiple frequencies for the pre-2010 Audi that used pressure sensors but it sure would be important to check before you installed new ones. That Porsches system was neat in that you could see the air pressure in each individual tire on the display. When doing track events it was very interesting to watch the tire pressure rise in the various tires at different rates depending on their position on the car and how the track affected them. It was not unusual to see a 10 pound per square inch rise in air pressure during a 30 minute track session.

I was able to access the hidden menu using the VAG-Com and when I went to the tire pressure window fault codes it said the system was turned off. I didn't mess with it so everything is still the same. But I couldn't find a place where I could turn the system back on, only a clear code option.

Did you clear the codes? Also, the older (pre 2010) sensors operating at 315mhz will sometimes need to be programmed first at install. If that hasn't been done, you may want to look at that.

I picked up 8 new ones that need to be installed soon. 4 for winter wheels and 4 for summer wheels.
