We should be able to order colored seat belts, colored stitching for seats and dash, etc like Porsche. I'd pay for it..... just seems odd to pay $70k+ for a car and not be able to select these things.

You can special order for luxury cars like RR where you can choose the color of the carpet, etc. but for more common cars i.e. under $100k, you don't see such individual service that often (yet).

new 2013 viper will have almost any special order you can think of
but it will probably start at 100K plus options.

I believe it has to do with the refundability of deposits (and litigation) in the USA. If we order $15K worth of custom options (such as seatbelts, interior wood, odd custom exterior color) and cancel, our deposits are refundable and the dealer is stuck with a car he can't sell. . In Europe, a deposit can be forfeited upon cancellation of an order.

It's called the Audi Exclusive program. Google it. There is some info on the Audiusa site but it's not as much info as you want. I think that all the details are with the dealership. My impression is that you have to go to a dealership that has a good relationship with their Audi rep AND who is knowlegable about the program. You may want to PM gd10 and see what he can tell you about the program. I bet it's a PITA for the dealership to order it so most don't bother.

Opposite...the order will be delayed as we saw with all of the special order suzuka greys last year. The cars are built with the just-in-time philosophy so if you order one with special parts, all of the parts will be ordered in such a way that they will arrive at the factory at the same time just before the car goes into production. Since the lead times are different for each part, everything is absolutely ready to go and each part is married to the car on the line just the same as stock parts are.
