My dealer slipped some sort of security feature into my deal. I had no idea it was done until delivery. Cost about $400. I was told it was some sort of tracking device placed in the door. honestly I don't think the guy explaing it had any idea what it was. I wasn't happy at all about the added cost and I still don't know what it was/is.

that's rather funny how the letter says without this added device the police will have no way to trace the car back to you the owner.... um how about the VIN number? just an idea.

It's all a scam or legal way to pad their pocket

BINGO - The police can't trace the car back to you via the company's own "National Theft Search & Recovery Database®™.."
it's a sticker that serves even less of a function than the VIN die stamps (which are all over the car).

Hilarious!

Personally I would have made a big fat red line through that line item and refused to pay.

Your dealer sounds like an absolute scumbag. New Audis come with anti-theft/tracking tech from the factory, fully integrated into the car.

Yep. "Please remove the door panel in my presence and prove to me this device is installed...and while you're in there you can either remove it, or you can explain in detail how it works and I will either happily accept it at no charge or we can cancel the deal."

100% correct. The B9 2018 has tracking built into the computer system. I also warned the financial mgr in advance no add on charges for this item. He reiterated it wasn't needed.
If I were you refuse to pay this BS.

Looking at it now I wish that's what I would have done. At the time I just wanted to wrap it up and go home.

I'd call them up, tell them you were able to properly research this completely unexpected and unasked for option, and that you will be expressing your opinion about this completely unnecessary money maker, and their taking advantage of your excitement to get your new car, in the survey Audi of America will be sending you.

Those surveys are meaningful to them, afterwards they can probably care less.
