2019 RS5 SB Faulty Thermostat- long wait for parts

I’ve had my RS5 SB for 19 months with 10.6 K miles and have been very happy with it.

Today the yellow Malfunction Indicator Lamp light came on, I took it to the dealer as was told the thermostat needs to be replaced.
After getting home with a loaner I was told they need a couple of gaskets that are only available in Canada and they will not arrive until Friday or Monday. Up to now I’ve been pleased with this dealer and they have me in a decent loaner but 5 or 8 days without my car for a thermostat replacement seems crazy.

Has anyone else had to wait for an extended time for parts for the 2018 or 2019 RS 5?

I haven't taken my RS5 to a dealer yet, but 5-8 days wait time on a part for a performance model does not seem that bad. I've waited multiple weeks for parts on other cars before. Especially factoring the delays that COVID is putting on everything 5-8 days seems reasonable.

Related to this TSB? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...76410-0001.pdf

"01 MIL on, DTC P218100, P017B00, P308100, and/or P01E400 are stored in the ECM,
TSB# 2058767/5 June 8, 2020

RS5 2019 VIN Range: A000001 - 907080

Customer states: MIL on.
Workshop findings: The fan may run permanently.

At least two of the DTCs below are stored in the engine control module (ECM), J623 (address word 0001):
DTC P218100 (fault in cooling system).
DTC P017B00 (sensor for cylinder head temperature, implausible signal).
DTC P308100 (engine temperature too low).
DTC P01E400 (sender 3 for coolant temperature, implausible signal).

Production Solution: Implementation of the improved thermostat in to production.

Service
1. Remove the thermostat and check whether it closes completely. If the coolant is still warm, put the thermostat in cold water to restore its original condition. If there is a gap between chamber and seal, the thermostat is faulty and needs to be replaced.

2. Attach photos to the repair order which clearly shows that the thermostat does not close neatly."

Thanks for the info. In addition to the MIL lamp my temp gauge would stay at the first hash mark and move to the second only momentarily. The fan was running long after I shut the car down and I suspect running constantly while driving.

Just be happy the part is on the same continent. I've had to wait a couple of weeks for parts to arrive from Germany.

More than a day or two is excessive for a thermostat in my mind. Audi should be stocking parts and there is a service bulletin related to this issue.

Given covid-19 supply chain effups 5-8 days doesn't seem too bad. Unusual that gaskets aren't with the thermostat...

Yeah, not many planes flying from Europe or China to North America to grab a cheap ride for automotive parts shipments.

Lol clicked on this thinking it was gonna be weeks

Given what’s going on in the world now days, that wait could be worse. I would just be concerned leaving my car in the dealerships care for that long. My car was door dinged at my dealership while in their care during a taillight swap. They made it right, only after I had a fit.
