I am bringing my car in next week and want them to upgrade to the latest version (v1118 or newer) while it's in for other stuff. I have a list of long standing Carplay and MMI issues I hope will be enough to convince them to upgrade.
Update on this....

The dealership and Audi Assistance confirmed my Carplay and media playback issues with my version of software (0918). They said there wasn't a software update available that would work in my car, however.

I find this strange, since 1118 is available for multiple models, including the loaner A5 they gave me. I was not experiencing my Carplay issues in the loaner. If they are to be believed, my understanding is that each version of MMI software has model/trim specific builds so in theory 1118 in an Q5 or A5 SB isn't compatible with my S5 coupe.

I can report that iOS version 11.2.6 (released within the last two weeks) DOES NOT fix the issue. My A5 Sportback is still running MMI version 0918 and when I tried to get my dealership to upgrade my MMI software at my last service appointment, the looked at me like I had 3 heads. Their inability to even understand the issue, along with their reluctance to secure some speaker covers that rattle for me (but not for them apparently) leads me to have little faith in the Audi dealer network.

Has anyone else been able to test the v1118 MMI software with the latest Apple patch (11.2.6) to see this combination fixes the issue? Has anyone else had success at getting their dealership to update their MMI software?

Over at the 'zine, there's a subforum with a direct conduit to an AoA representative. Perhaps you could get some traction from him (about the dealers being unwilling to upgrade MMI).

I just bought a 2018 S5 SB, and was wondering if I was going to have the same issue, as I will be using CarPlay. My CarPlay works as it should, but I have v1118 MMI. I am still running 12.2.5 iOS, but it sounds like the 0918 vs 1118 MMI is the issue.

I just got my new B9 S5 SB... I also have a BMW 435i Coupe and I must admit as much as I love the Audi (first time Audi owner) BMW infotainment system is much better. I find the Audi's a little too confusing and also media player crashes all the time for some reason on bluetooth. I compensate by turning off the music, opening the window and listening to the exhaust on dynamic drive mode

Lately I've been able to get CarPlay to launch by hitting Media a few times until the source changes. Back to the menu, then open CarPlay. This has worked consistently the last couple of times I've tried.

I now have a new CarPlay MMI issue...if in traffic, and anyone of the sensors goes off, so does the CarPlay UI. Sometimes even the radio trick won’t fix this when it happen.

GOOD NEWS! After the iOS 11.3 update, the CarPlay issues I‘ve been having are no longer a problem! Hopefully this is the fix for all!

It has been reported (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-.../#post25131243, post# 126, 127, and personal experience) that iOS 11.3 (released March 29th) fixes this problem. Fix is independent of Audi model (2017 or 2018, A4 or A4 Allroad), MMI version (0918 or 1118), or iPhone model (X, 8, or 6). Give it a try, and let us know how it goes
