Auto-Dimming side mirrors + rearview
Hi All - Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the auto-dimming mirrors in the B9 SB5? This really drives me nuts as there have been occasions where it is raining & the mirrors dim, and it becomes next to impossible to see out of them. I know there is the method of the taping the sensor so it doesn't catch light, but I was hoping I am missing a menu or it would be possible in the ODB coding but I was not able to see it in the chain.

I agree. Tough to see cars running without lights in evening, and distinguishing lane-splitting motorcycles.
Where specifically are the mirror sensors? If they can’t be disabled I’ll put a bit of tinted tape over them to give better night viewability.

It is the first major thing I didn't like about our cars. I reached out to the ODB team over a year ago and they developed a solution so we can turn off the dimming for the side-view mirrors. Unfortunately, they didn't have a solution for the rear-view at the time. Perhaps someone could ping them to see if they've developed a rear-view fix during the last year.

I have the Audi sun blind on my rear window, so it cuts the amount of light hitting the sensor on the rearview mirror. That appears to affect the side mirrors, as they don't dim nearly as much as they used to before I put the blind in. Perhaps, a 50% or lower tint on the rear window would also achieve the same?

I've got the same issue with mine. I have 35% tint all around, so darker tint on the back window doesn't appear to affect the sensor. My issue is that the side mirrors get VERY dark. Even with the windows rolled down, I have the same issue as OP. I had a 2002 A6 back in the day and it was one of my favorite features - but I don't recall it being this dark.

Funny. Different strokes. I find that the side mirrors and rearview don’t get dark enough!
