Default Auto start stop

I notice that my S5's Auto start stop does this a lot; I would come to a stop, the engine shuts off, then it fires right back up, sometimes it stays off. My other cars with Auto start stop does not do this, is this normal for the S5?

I've noticed in the loaners that I've driven recently that if after you stop and the engine stops if you lift up on the brake where it's just barely engaged but still keeping you from moving that the car will start back up.

I have noticed that also, but that's not the case here, brake pedal pressure is being applied evenly.

there are several variables in play w/Auto Stop-Start. Temp of engine, AC on, comfort fan on high, S or D mode, pressure on brake pedal, yadda yadda...

Does any of those factors cause the system to shut off the engine and start right back up at a stop? Most of the time, these parameters will simply stop the engine from stopping in the first place.

Is there any car that actually has a reasonable start and stop? Why can't they program in a 1 sec delay before it stops when you come to a stop? Would be less jerky that way.

2 Reasons:

1.) BS EPA gas mileage rating
2.) BS Nanny state

FWIW, one of the reviews I read of the S5 prior to purchasing it, the reviewer specifically mentioned the start/stop engaging too soon. Since that review was in 2017, he assumed Audi would clean that up in the next software update (ha - how funny is that?). While I have not driven a ton of auto start/stop vehicles, the reviewer obviously thought the Audi version was outside of normal. I also agree, it would be much more usable if it waited until the vehicle was completely stopped.

it has everything to do with emissions. If you ever go to Germany, you will note the traffic at stop lights is silent...
