Default CarPlay disconnecting iPhone X’s Max

I recently switched from my iPhone 7+ running iOS 12.0 to an iPhone XS Max running iOS 12.0.

I have a 2018 Audi A5 Sportback with the latest firmware from Audi.
With the switch to the XS Max, seems that my Apple CarPlay will get into a cycle of disconnecting and reconnecting

every 30 seconds or so.

I tried reverting back to my 7+ and works fine.

1. Siri is enabled.

2. The USB Lockout is turned off on the XS Max. The 7+ had the lockout turned on

but made no difference in the XS Max toggling on or off.

3. Swapped the cables to the one in the box of the iPhone XS Max and USB ports

in the car. This had no impact on the XS Max recycling the connection. The 7+ is uneffected

business as usual.

Not sure if this is tied in with the authentication issue with the charger. I go over wired carplay and the 30 second increment is suspect as that is my lockout time on the phone.

Curious if others are facing this.
Thanks!

XS Max here with no issues. It sounds like it may be the phone.

at first I thought it may be my phone but a post on apple confirms I’m not the only person and apparently a lot of Audi owners with the same issue.

I had the same problem. Updating to iOS 12.0.1 fixes it. It's a known issue. People have been complaining that their iPhone Xs sometimes wouldn't charge when plugged in. I guess this issue was related as 12.0.1 addresses the charging issue.

I had that issue with my Xs Max and changing the cable actually fixed it for me. I also switched from USB1 to USB2.

I ended up updating to 12.0.1 over the weekend, on first attempt it looked fine for my drive to work and everything was ok again. Driving back, same issue but I ended up waiting a bit for the MMI to load then attempted to connect and it seemed fine again.

This is appears to only be affecting my XS MAX. My wife’s XS works fine.

My XS will randomly disconnect and I can only fix it by plugging it back in. I am running the ios12 beta software so I thought that maybe the issue, but I also had a software update in my S5 last week and that is when this all started.
