I think it's just personal preference. It is definitely done for aesthetics though and it isn't about being ashamed of driving a certain car or brand. I don't think I will debadge my S5 as I love that logo but everything else other than the Audi rings will go.

Certainly removing descriptions from possessions is individual. I enjoy buying and displaying classical works of art and paintings.
Perhaps deleting the artist's signature would "clean up" the print ,painting or statue, but I find the attributes honor the creator and help the observer learn about the displays.
Each Audi engineer and designer must be so proud of their creation and would wish to distinguish it from all others.
Glasse mentioned stealth in hiding a more powerful vehicle but conversely hiding a weaker engine holds true.
What good is a Mustang if it isn't a 5.0? Corvette Z06? Dodge442 the ID is the car.
I know from coming from Bimmers 320,328s are wannabes.
How does that analogy work for Audis?
