I needed me to clear all the faults using VCDS, for the TPMS display to start working again.
That's good to know.

Perhaps the missing but expected signal from the changed/ removed sensor caused a 0 psi phantom signal or null value leading to the flat warning.

Perhaps to reset the TPMS and initiate a look for a set of new sensors id's and values it needed a hard reset.

Well Bruce, that’s concerning. I just swapped my winter tires for the summer set with their own set of sensors.First drive, warning appeared “wheel change detected” with TPMS warning. Stopped, restored tire pressure values, All good.

Those were the two errors stored. Like I said, only when I cleared the DTCs using VCDS did the TPMS display start working again. Simply storing the new pressures wasn't enough.

I’ve read this thread start to finish now, and just wanted to say a big THANKS to the contributors. 👍🏻

I’ve ordered the AliExpress kit and will be installing on my 2020 RS4 (yes, the UK spec ones don’t have this as standard any more, not even an option when I spec’d up the car.)

The only bit i can add to this thread will be a 3D printed holder for securing the receiver module inside the car, on the right hand side. STL file to follow…
I’m sure cable ties work well, but I like a clean looking install 😁

Will the aliexpress kit fit and operate on the 2020 A6 allroad? Would the coding be the same?

I think it’s nuts to retrofit something that just increases cost and complexity. One of Audi’s best deals was the ABS-Linked TPMS without those spendy wheel-mounted pressure sensors.

Agreed. I cannot thank VAG enough for not seeing the TPMS light on the dash all winter while I run my snow tires...

The pros and cons of direct vs indirect methods are well known, we all have our preference. This thread is about direct TPMS retrofit so I think it's nuts to drop in a thread and start answering questions that haven't been asked.

And regarding "spendy sensors", they're $35 per wheel.

Um.... as you've already threadjacked this very helpful topic, maybe you haven't thought about the fact that with a direct system you can actually proactively address problems before they become life threatening issues (like a blowout). As a disabled driver, not knowing which wheel is low or dangerous means I have to exit my vehicle and test each tire individually. The indirect method on my vehicle never actually showed me which tire had an issue - I got an error and a light - that's it. So while I appreciate that everyone has their opinion, yours is to not spend the money and keep the thread on topic. Not trying to be an a$$, but your opinion is essentially a FU to everyone else in this thread.

Couldn't have said it better, minus a few expletives I would have added.... LOL
