Its supply and demand, there is very little demand for an manual dip stick, that's why the price is so high.

So thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions. My next change should be a heck of a lot easier. My suspicions about the AUDI recommended oil change interval is confirmed in a rarely mentioned part of the manual. IMHO 10,000 miles seems awfully long interval for a turbo engine, or any engine for that matter, See attached "exceptions" and scroll down. Essentially, if you drive your car in anything other than a scientific clean room, at constant temperatures, and only at steady speeds and longish trips, the oil should be changed more frequently.
