Extended Warranty - Is it worth it?

When I bought the car the dealer quoted a few prices for an extended warranty. The factory warranty is 4 yr / 48,000 miles. I should mention that I plan to keep the vehicle for ~10 years, and I will probably average about 7,000 miles / year.

Here are the figures for the extended warranty:
8 yr / 80,000 miles - $3,565
10 yr / 100,000 miles - $4,920

They also offered a wheel / tire warranty. If anything happens to a tire or wheel (crack, break or even curb scuff) they will replace it.

5 yr / unlimited miles - $1,195

Any thoughts? Are any of you paying for an extended warranty? If you don't mind, how much are you paying?

I purchased a “wheel, tire & replacement remote” package for about the same price as you did.

i only went with the 5 year service warranty for whatever the Audi price is on-line.

From your post, it would seem that we are both alike as far as length of time we keep our cars (last Acura was 12.5 years) and mileage per year. Before buying any extended warranties, I want to see what experience I have as well as the rest of the Audi B9 world.

My S5 just turned 7 months old as has 3,027 miles on her. So far — no real issues or complaints.

This is often refer to as the backend of the deal where the dealer can make the most money. German cars’ extended warranties are too expensive, the same terms on a Lexus or Acura would be a quarter of the price. Personally, I would self insure and put that money in the bank. Another option is to wait until your 4 year warranty is almost up, then by it. As for the wheel insurance, its a bit over priced.

Call the extended warranty company to cancel. However, you will not get a large portions of your initial purchase back. Trust me, you are gonna be unhappy with the refunded amount they tell you.....

I forgot to mention, all plans had a $0 deductible.

I may be wrong, but doesn't the extended warranty start after the 4 year manufacturer's warranty ends? So the 7/100,000 is really 3/100,000?

I got a 80,000k / 8 year which ever comes first with $250 deductable for about $2,000. They quoted much higher initially and I said no.

For me, it's not so much rth mechanical stuff but the electronics...I don't even want to know what it would cost if the screen on virtual cockpit went out etc...

Plan to keep car for a long time and already out 17,000 miles in year one. Also, up to now I've only had Honda / Lexus and was worried about my first German car.

Get the warranty. Peace of mind.

you will get a flat or bent wheel in a couple years or less. Audi is not good with auto transmissions, they ignore ZF recommendations...you shouldn’t. One major engine issue requiring removal or replacement will justify the warranty.
