gear shift park turns off engine s5 sportback
I am completely at a loss to explain this, which started the other night.
if i stop the car put the gearshift in park the engine stops. (well almost always because sometimes it continues to idle.)
if i use the "tab" to engage the electro mechanical brake and leave the car in neutral the engine continues to idle.
is this a "feature" or a software glitch?
i have about 1200 miles on the car, which i really love. Traded in an A7. Loved that one too. but the s5 handles better.
I called my dealer Mohegan Lake Motors --a great dealership, btw--and they are flummoxed.

If the cabin is still too hot, the engine will run to power the AC.

It's just a feature of the Stop/Start system. If you are in traffic and not going to move for a while you can just hit the park button (differential will lock) and take your foot off of the brake without the engine being restarted. Depending on conditions (AC / engine temp / other stuff) it won't always shut off the engine.

yes. when auto stop/start is active (the default) the engine will be cut off UNLESS you LIGHTLY press on the gas pedal. this i just learned from reading the on-line manual.
if you fully depress the gas pedal the auto stop/start functions and the engine will cut off.
pressure on the gas pedal is what governs the stop/start function (if you haven't deactivated it).
Can't figure out the logic of this. but i accept it.
Any further thoughts??
i'll make sure that the stop/start is deactivated from the dashboard button every time i get into the car.

My ritual is:
1.) Start the car
2.) Immediately press the start stop button to disable it!
Biggest PITA so far

We don't have our Audi yet since it's a 2019, but when we did the 24 hour test drive with a 2018 this is the first thing we did. The start/stop is too annoying to tolerate.
