Thanks, makes me feel a lot better!

It's interesting that they go out of their way to make sure there are no long term guarantees for Google Earth even in the brand new Q8 MMI:
"Google Earth is a trademark of Google Inc. Connect services are subject to technologies remaining commercially available, such services are not guaranteed, and may not be available after 2021 for equipped MY17-20 vehicles."

Aha! The nefarious plot to stop support for Google Earth is exposed! Sounds like it might have something to do with an MMI OS switch from QNX to Android. The hardware (nVidia Tegra 3) is the same as my Nexus 7, which will only run up to Android 6, so it is probably being updated also. I would imagine Embedded Android will be a higher version than 6, and Audi isn’t interested in porting the MMI software down to 6. I also imagine Google can play games within their embedded OS to improve the performance of Google Earth that won’t work with the current hardware/OS, and Audi doesn’t want to feed two versions of Google Earth data through Audi Connect.

Of course, I could be wrong in all of my assumptions.

Even the 2019 B9 models are getting a software update to support a new Google "tiles" API, which is what they're moving to after Dec 2020. So they're not stopping support for Google Earth, but simply changing the way that they retrieve the data and limiting it to MY2019 and later.

Originally, I thought that is what Audi said. However, I think I remember reading here that the same disclaimer is being used on all of the 2019 cars except for the A8.

Audi's Audi-Connect website still says:

"(4) Online services are subject to change at any time. Google Earth™ features will not be available after December 2020 for MY2018 and older vehicles."

The verbiage hasn't changed. Here's the fine print from Audi's site:

3 Always pay careful attention to the road, and do not drive while distracted. Audi connect should only be used when it is safe and appropriate. Audi connect services and features are optional, provided with the support of authorized affiliated and third-party service providers, and may require additional subscriptions with separate terms and conditions. Available on select models. Certain services collect location information, see Terms of Service for information about how to disable and for other details. Google Earth features will not be available after December 2020 for Model Year 2018 & prior vehicles. Google Earth is a trademark of Google Inc. Connect services are subject to technologies remaining commercially available, such services are not guaranteed, and may not be available after 2021 for equipped MY17-20 vehicles.

4 Online services are subject to change at any time. Google Earth™ features will not be available after December 2020 for MY2018 and older vehicles.
I can't find the reference now, but someone recounted from their dealer training that MY18 and earlier would just lose functionality, while MY19 and later would smoothly transition to the new API.
