Default A week with my new S5 Cab, plus AWESOME MODS

Ok, so its been a week-ish with my new cab....absolutely loving it.

A few observations:
  • Lane/steering assist is a little weird to feel the hand of God nudging you in the lane
  • Android auto works really well overall with my Samsung S8...couple of glitches, but that could have been me.
  • Will really need to defeat the Auto-stop/start feature permanently...not diggin' having to hit the off button every time.
  • Sport mode is awesome. Changes the car pretty significantly. Holds in the gears longer/higher RPM, great throttle matching/blipping on downshifts, and love the addition of exhaust farts/burbles.
  • From the ragtop, I'm hearing a bit more external noise from the rear sides than I expected from the reviews, but overall the car is quiet in the cabin for a cloth top.
  • I really need to RTFM. Tons of technology here...have most of it figured out, but wow.
  • Impressed with adaptive headlights. Gets it "right" most of the time, without excessive on/off flashing. I like it.
  • Bass from the B&O is pretty weak. I can't expect too much though....there's zero room to put a sub anywhere in a cabriolet....nor would it encapsulate the bass well anyway.
  • The cubby storage drawer in the dash is huge. Plenty of space for black metal objects. Win.

I'm super happy with the car so far. I'm someone who HATED the look of the new front end in pictures, but the car has really grown on me. I was THIS close to getting a Boxster S, but I'm very happy I stayed with Audi.

Ok, now on to the SUPER AMAZING mods I've done this weekend (hold on tight to something!):

1. The console organizer mod: About 13 bucks from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JM5SZ3 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JM5SZ3
Not quite perfect for S5 owners, but works good enough. Its shallower than the entire depth of the armrest, so you have some space underneath to route the USB cable. As others have noted, it was made for cars with the cigarette light in the arm rest, so theres a cut-out hole here that we don't need. No big deal.

2. The Audi Beam Rings mod: My car didnt come with them. I wanted them. $148 shipped from Audi Greenville, but you can find them many places. https://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-RINGS-...M/173058120508 Took about 1 minute each side to pop out the old and snap in the new. I would have preferred the S5 light available from China, but didnt like how washed out it looked (to me)...so I went with expensive OEM. If you are considering getting these, DO NOT order them with your car or have a dealer install...its a waste of 100 bucks. You simply insert a tiny screwdriver into the small dent/slot in the rearward edge of the light, and pry downward. They pop right out. There's YouTube videos showing how.

3. And finally, I completed the Homelink "get it working" mod. Ok, not really a mod, but I wanted to share that I didnt really have any problem programming 3 doors. For my newest door (5 years or so), I didnt even need to leave the car. Did it all using only the transmitter from inside the car. Like 7-10 seconds. EZ PZ. For the other two doors, I *did* have to hit the learn button. I know that lots of folks have had problems, but I'm happy to report that I got all 3 working on first attempt. What I did do was when it tells you to "Press <homelink button> Twice", I just hit it like 3-5 times until the door finally behaved and started moving.

One other thing I discovered (I'm not all the way through the manual yet)...looks like for cabrios Audi replaced the overhead trunk grocery bag hooks with side-mounted hooks on both sides of the trunk. Can't hold as much as the overheads, but still functional.

Now don't you feel enriched reading all this? Just WAIT until you see my "Install Smart Tag toll booth transponder" mod. Brace yourselves.

Great choice - I love mine too. 2018 S5 Cabriolet Daytona/Magma Red with S Sport Package, Cavo Rims, Carbon Fiber inserts.

I added a few mods today - I have the Prestige version but no DAP.

I Just added:
High Beam Assist
Active Lane assist
Disable Seat Belt Chime
Comfort Flashing now 5 flashes
Display Current Gear number
Double Beep/flash when locking
Rear Tail Lights on with DRL
Camera in Motion to 15 mph
VIM did not work on my car - my software Rev 1118 is too new.

Plan to add Traffic Sign recognition - waiting for dongle from Germany.

Using the Active Lane assist - I experienced that the car will steer itself around corners and stay in its lane - very cool. I see no down side to adding it as others say they did not like it. You can turn off the steering wheel vibration and that is essential the same as turning off the system.

The high beam assist works great too. All thanks to 4ringscoding@gmail.com.

Wow cool....didn't realize you could easily code all of that. Keep me updated on the VIM...did it on my A6, and interested again.

How did you do the coding, particularly Display Current Gear number?

yes I would also appreciate some details on the coding, my car's a premium plus so don't have all the cameras and such but some
of the coding would indeed work.

i have an obdeleven device on order so hope to be able to do some tweaks

I had my car coded remotely by 4ringscoding.

4ringscoding@gmail.com

So the VIM and the camera in motion to 15 mph did not work. And the parking aid still defaults to the graphic view (not related to coding here).

Also I have the Prestige version and the Kufatec dongle did not work either - no traffic signs. https://www.kufatec.us/shop/en/diagn...ecognition-mlb

If anyone with a 2018 S5 has this Kufatec module and it works for you, can I please get your vin number (private message me). Kufatec said they would see if they could debug this if I could show another similar car where it worked. Thanks for the help out there...
