Loss of Power / strange behaviour / no faults
Wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Driving along today discovered that after around 4000rpm the revs continue to climb but there’s no real extra grunt. The gearbox doesn’t seem to be kicking down properly at higher revs.
Later whilst doing around 30mph I floored it. Gearbox kicked down but at around 4000rpm the power died off significantly.
Got home and plugged in OBDeleven. No faults other than an intermittent fault on the exhaust flaps. Car on/off, changed drive modes flaps are working. Rescanned for fault codes. Exhaust flap fault is gone.
During all all of this there were no warnings on the dash or anything.
Has as anyone experienced behaviour like this?
Car is 2018 with 5000 miles on the clock. Had already had the breatherpipe recall done about a month ago.

Well I did wonder about that myself. My last tank was stuff that I’ve never used before from a place I’ve never bought from before but it is known for being good quality stuff so not sure but it’s possible. I was also down to the last bar on the display before it hits the red.
Just had a chat with one of my neighbours. He’s a transmission specialist. Owns his own company and does a lot of work for the main dealers. He reckons that the flaps could have been seized open and this may have affected back pressure and/or could have been a simple software glitch on the tranny.
If it was anything to do with the flaps (and these were showing an error code) makes you wonder about the impact of those who are disconnecting them for better exhaust sound.

Where you in S or D mode? I know it likes to hang gears in S mode and I have to upshift manually.

At 4000rpm in S mode your exhaust flaps should be open. If the engine rpm were still climbing after 4000rpm but you were losing performance then the ECU was cutting boost. Either traction control (if it happens again switch traction to ESC Sport and see if there is a difference) or the ECU is seeing a "mild" fault condition and it will restrict rpm to 4000 and reduce torque, but you should get a message if this is an enduring state.

Was out in the car again today and all is normal so will keep an eye on it. No point taking it to Audi at the moment. They wont be interested unless I can replicate the issue or there's fault present.

The symptoms sound a lot like a turbo wastegate that's "stuck" open. Of course, it might not have been actually mechanically stuck, but held open by the computer given other factors. If you had something odd going on with the exhaust (which feeds the turbo), it's possible that the two could be connected.
