Mirror tap fuse continues to blow
I mirror tapped my radar detector and the fuse has blown twice now. I never had this issue in my S5, so I'm not sure what I could do to keep this from happening. The current fuse is a 5, should I increase it to 7.5? I'm not well versed with electronics, so any help is appreciated.

Are you using the exact same pins to tap?

Yes, tapped into the yellow (red) and brown (black). Same as I did on my S5 as directed by @scoopman in his helpful post.

Have you changed detectors at all? You can try upping the amperage of the fuse and see if that helps.

Same detector as I used in my S5. Same mirror tap harness from Amazon. Current fuse is a 5A, would 7.5A do any harm?

I wouldnt think so. Can you share the mirror tap harness youre using? My mirror tap has no fuse in it, just RJ11 to red/black pins.

That's the one I'm using, RJ 11 to red and black. But the fuse that controls the mirror is in the footwell fuse box. Its at spot D1, uses a 5A mini fuse.

Ahh, I see what youre saying. Which fuse are you tapping in the footwell? Ive always used the homelink fuse in every car with no issues. But you can bump it to 7.5 and see how it goes.

I'm not tapping into any fuse. I'm tapping into the mirror harness in the mirror assembly. But the 5A fuse in the footwell is what powers the mirror, so that is the one that keeps blowing.
