Ironically it looks more like a liftback than the S5 Sportback does! My original comment above was related to how big, and a little generic the S5 Sportback looks from the side (indeed it may well be the biggest subcompact car on the market). The long low hood, low roof, and short rear deck are there but so smoothly integrated that they don't jump out at you. On the other hand from the front view especially (in your rear view mirror) the low wide profile screams sports car and Audi. So, while I think it is a beautiful design it is also a bit of a shape shifter.

This car gets less unsolicited comment than any of my recent BMWs, much less than the M3s. But I enjoy driving a sleeper.

I would hardly call this a sleeper, it is too good looking. The Golf R I was thinking of buying is more in the "sleeper" category IMO.

My preference would have been a Golf R, but my wife really appreciates the luxury car look and feel.

As the owner of both cars, the R is a better modder's slash drivers car, but the S5 is sooo much nicer in about every other way.

That's what I'm telling myself. To properly enjoy the R I would have to either track it or lose my license on a weekly basis.
Plus my wife really likes the A5.
