I noticed that there is a difference between the US configuration and the German with respect to the darkness of the rear glass. I hope the US spec has privacy glass on the rear half of the car.

US Config

German Config

You cannot get privacy glass in the US unless it is on a multipurpose vehicle.

Like an SUV? Because my '96 4Runner and '07 FJ Cruiser have dark glass on the rear passenger & back windows.

Correct. Or an off-road wagon.

...
It is not standard in Germany, so you must have added it as an option when you "built" the car on the German configurator. It is illegal to tint front side windows in most of Europe, for safety reasons, and I don't like the half-cooked look myself. Seems to spoil the flow.

now that you mention it, i do recall having to scrape off my FJ Cruiser's factory tint film on my front driver's and passenger's side windows when I came to DE before i could pass inspection.

Ya, the rear glass tint is optional in Europe on a lot of cars. I agree that the tint only in the rear throws off the look. I've always assumed that it is not offered for US cars because the amount of tint is regulated on a state-by-state basis. Generally, southern states allow for much darker tints than northern states do. And I think some states allow for tinted windshields, while other don't. It's all crazy.

I know that there has been an effort for years to standardize these sort of specs for the EU and the US/Canada to simplify builds and cost. For some reason, they've never been able to get that done. Just one more example of wasted government money on both sides of the pond . . .

What's legal in the states and what get's by are 2 diff things. In Cali I got 2 tint fix-it tickets at 20% in a previous car. In Colorado none and my fronts are tinted to match the rear of my Q5, probably 25-30%.

Tint is def all or nothing...in my case it's all.

The US S-Line sport pkg rims can be seen in this clip of a EU spec'd diesel in Romania:
