There is no second camera in the windshield. The upper module is simply a rain/light sensor. For the camera, it's present if you have the High bean assist or the Pre Sense City.

Correct! The second camera above is installed if ADAP package is fitted.

There appears to be a disconnect between thoughts. TWO cameras are installed if both high beam assist and ADAP is installed in the vehicle.

TWO cameras!

TWO

DEUX!

In green!

That red disc thing between both cameras (if second camera is fitted) - THAT is the rain sensor.

Yellow circle is where second camera is fitted - if installed for ADAP!

What is intriguing is the possibility that the ADAP camera can take over the roles of high beam assist and traffic sign recognition from the camera installed on the mirror mount negating its installation.
If so, then it's possible only one camera, either or, is required depending on options fitted to the car. The camera mounted on the mirror stalk is the cheaper option and can only perform two tasks - high beam assist and traffic sign recognition.

The ADAP camera mounted above the mirror and is attached directly to the glass can perform the following:
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • matrix high beam (MxB)
  • high beam assistant (HBA)
  • active lane assist (ALA)
  • adaptive cruise control (ACC)
  • traffic jam assist (TJA)

Yes, there seems to be 2 cameras in the illustration you posted but that does not mean that this is the case for the A5. In all cases, part schematics only show one camera and one sensor.

By the way, there are also 2 control unit on either side of the front bumper.

I'm going all-in and will hazard a guess that there are the following 2018/2019 A5/S5 vehicles with one of three camera configurations in Canada:
  • No Camera - low option vehicle - no high beam assist.
  • Camera mounted in the mirror housing air gap between it and window - high beam assist / traffic sign recognition.
  • Camera mounted ABOVE mirror directly on glass with small triangular window - ADAP options - includes fitted radar.

(10) is the retaining plate for the second camera you are talking about but I can't find this camera. Only a dummy cover (11).

Ok, (6) is probably the camera that goes in there.
